Ludwig the Rock - Pages 1-13 I guess I didn't really mention it here, but I'm doing nanomango for the first time this year! The official objective is to do 30 comic pages in 30 days. I'm a dork, so I'm trying for more. I think I'll definitely do more than 30 pages; it's just a question of how much more. I originally wanted to complete the story, but the story turned out longer than I planned. And I wouldn't want to truncate it just for the sake of nanomango.
It's amazing how much more energy I have and how much more motivated I am, now that I'm off of the medicine that made me a zombie for two years. And all this time I thought I was just lazy and stupid. But if I can do this challenge while working full time (including the occasional 16-hour day) and keeping up in my internet class, then yay! I'm sad that I didn't get any artwork done on Sunday (as weekends are where I'd like to get 4 pages done per day), but I had to catch up on sleep and other stuff.
For those of you who don't do deviantArt, I'm posting my Ludwig the Rock pages here! (sorry to those of you who've already seen it.) There are 13 pages up so far, which completes the first scene. Actually, I've completed two more pages today, putting me at the "official" halfway point! But I haven't scanned them in yet.
BUY AWESOME JEWELRY ^_^ Sorry for the blatant spamming, but anyone who wears jewelry needs to check out linmayu's Etsy shop! Go there!!! She's selling unique, gorgeous, hand-made jewelry. I don't wear jewelry, but these make me want to wear jewelry. (I'm really tempted to buy those leaf earrings...)
Dumbirds! I saw a pair of nanday conures outside on campus today! They were so dumb! Well, first I only saw one; he flew over and perched on a power line (along Old Bradenton, by the "rich CJ" parking lot) and started preening. He kept on scratching his yawn spot, and he looked like a dork! Then I started whistling at him, so he turned his head sideways and started squawking back. Then after a little while he and his buddy (boyfriend/girlfriend, whatever; they're not sexually dimorphic) flew off together. Dude, I love dumbirds.
And Myspace doesn't exactly make it easy to fix this. I have to take a picture of myself or something, and send it to them to prove my identity. :rolls eyes: But it pisses me off that people would just do that. I wonder how to prevent this kind of thing? It's not like I've been publicizing my myspace account or anything.
I've been replacing the light bulbs in my house with CFL's (compact fluorescent lights, more commonly known as "those swirly lights"). They use 20-30% of the electricity that regular incandescent lights use, and they last between 5 and 9 years. The GE CFL's I have in my room are supposed to last five, and the n:vision bulbs we just got for the main room are supposed to last nine. (Oh yeah, they calculate these numbers based on "four hours of usage per day," which of course is silly if you're nocturnal like me, but still -- it's waaaaay longer than regular bulbs.)
I really like the bulbs I got for the main room. They're daylight bulbs. And it's really freaking me out, because it was, like, 10pm, and every time I looked out into the hallway, I seriously thought that it was daylight. I'm losing my mind.... EEE! (And no, I'm not quoting the pika from the "Life of Mammals" documentary.)
I just went into the main room to get something and I had to turn the light on. When I looked into Pokey's cage, she had woken up and was rubbing her head against the cotton part of one of her toys. She looked like a big loser. ^_^
Anyway... SHANGO! Need Shango pictures!!! Man, I miss my lady, but I think that at least the horrible stage of grief has passed. The other day, I looked through all the old pictures I took and never showed. ( Here are some Shango pictures I've never put online before! )
Shango, 02/28/2000 - 03/02/2007 So many people have been so helpful during the past few days (several of which are on my friends list). You people are all awesome.
I just wanted to make this post of all my favorite Shango pictures in honor of my favorite little lady. But first, here's my favorite ferret audio clip, of Shango throwing a fit because Oscar was biting her.
Happy Birthday, Shango! Happy birthday to my favorite dumbo lady! Remember, seven is a lucky number! So you make sure to stay healthy and eat all your mushy soft food, and I'll make sure to add Ferretone so it tastes good!
You can also just click on the first link, and then click "view next page" to get to the rest of the pages. Ahh, I love this scene! Or at least, I love the script for it. It's the first scene where Pogo shows how much of a perv he is.
I love typos I was reading a CD review on iTunes, and one person (who was actually trying to compliment the CD) said "all of his songs are deep inside of my hearth." I got a kick out of that. ^_^
Thanksgiving Happy late Thanksgiving to everyone! ^_^
Thanksgiving was very cool for me. Monkey Man was here, of course. I dropped him back off at the airport about an hour ago. His flight isn't for another two days, but I didn't want him anymore. (Just kidding about that last part. ^_^ I think his flight was about seven minutes ago.) Anyway, I spent about six hours cooking. I'd never cooked Thanksgiving stuff before, so I figured I'd try. It wasn't "authentic" Thanksgiving food, but it was close enough.
So yeah. Yay food! And I'm glad that I was able to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner in which everything was actually edible. ^_^ (Man, I love cast iron!)
My New Printer ^_^ I don't remember if I mentioned it before on my livejournal, but a month or two ago, my printer broke. One half of the mechanism that feeds the paper through did its job, but the other half decided to slack off, so every printed paper would start coming out lopsided about halfway through, until the paper eventually crumpled itself against the side of the printer.
I'd had it for over five years, and it has always been very good to me. But it was time for a new one. Today Monkey Man flew into Sarasota (for Thanksgiving), and we went to Best Buy and Office Depot to look at printers. When it comes to printers, we're both loyal to HP. Well, there's no reason not to be. I've had good luck with all the HP printers I've used.
I had a VERY hard time choosing between two printers in particular. One of them, the HP Photosmart 6180, looked like it would be very good. My father was trying to push for it because he liked that it also had the scanner, copier, and fax. (I'd mentioned to him that my scanner is sort of failing. Sometimes it starts to scan, then decides halfway through that it has better things to do and gives up. But that's pretty rare.) The printer had some nice, convenient features and stuff, and the salesman said that it was a favorite among Ringling students who came to the school.
But then at Office Depot, we came across the HP Deskjet 9800. It's nowhere near as flashy as the Photosmart 6180. No scanner, fax, or copier. No LCD screen, no plug-ins for digital cameras, and no sea of shiny buttons. It uses the standard two ink cartridges (one tri-color, one black (though it has the option of using a different greyscale cartridge with three shades), as opposed to the 6180, which uses six colors. BUT... it can print anything from 3"x5" all the way up to a full bleed on 13"x19". And I know that I'm far more likely to print on 11x17 than I am to send someone a fax. The 9800 may not be a "photo printer," but my Deskjet 952C served me well, so I know better than to underestimate a Deskjet. (And the 9800 actually prints at just as high a resolution as the Photosmart 6180.)
So we bought the 9800. I have fourteen days to decide whether or not I want to keep it, but it's looking good so far. I printed the Queen of Sausages, the Unholy title page, and my "rebirth" self portrait. The first two pictures printed perfectly. I'm having a little more trouble with the self portrait; printers in general do not like that picture. So I'm spending tonight getting to know my printer and figure out how to coax it into printing exactly the way I want. It lets you adjust all kinds of stuff, including the levels at which each color of ink is used. So I'm sure I can get it to cooperate. I know I'm using a whole lot of ink, but this is an important part of getting to know my printer. ^_^ So far, I like it very much.
P.S. Just now, another copy of my self portrait came out of my printer, and it's almost perfect. Just a little bit heavy on the magenta. I'm gonna adjust it now and print again.
The best part of my day So, today is frooti's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FROOTI!!! Frooti is in Illinois, but we talked on the phone and stuff, and it was cool. But what was especially cool -- when I got home, I checked my phone messages, and I got a message from my mother, who called to tell Frooti happy birthday. Apparently, she thought she was calling her number, but called mine instead. I reeeally enjoyed listening to her super-clueless message on my machine. Every time there's a holiday, she leaves a funny and embarrassing message on someone's answering machine. (Example: on New Year's Day, she called and said "Happy birthday.")
Second thing -- this is where you go if you want to see lots of pictures of DUMB ANIMALS!
Step 1: Go to http://www.corbis.com Step 2: Enter the word "calling" in the search box. Step 3: When it asks "Did you mean: calling (telephoning), or calling (vocalizing)," check the box for "vocalizing."
Then look at all the pictures that come up! They're wonderful.
Today I plan on being in Roskamp 2 all day today, so if anyone else needs to do computer work, that's the COOL place to be! I'll probably be there in about half an hour.
On a side note, Storytime with Auntie Shelly gave me bad dreams last night. ^_^
